Has anyone mounted their turbo above the clutch housing to the side of the engine rather that Infront of the bulkhead? Considering doing it this way but wondering if it's a massive amount of work getting it all to fit and it is work it.

Pics would be brilliant!

Thanks,
Sam

Efficiency is progressively lost, the further the turbo is from the exhaust valves.

That's mot really true, turbos respond to Tuned primary lengths just like any engine, but it's a good idea to try to keep the heat in the exhaust gasses.

Doesn't fusion fabrications make a manifold for it?

I vaguely recollect in David Vizards “tuning the A series engine” book a section on forced induction.
It showed the standard Metro turbo set-up and also another set-up where the turbo was over the clutch housing.
My old age and poor memory prevent me remembering the company’s name, but yes it has been done before. I think the company’s name may have been “turbo technics”, Janspeed or similar??

EDIT: I’ve just googled it and it was Janspeed. The turbo sat over the clutch housing with the turbo exit down pipe in the same position as the standard set-up.

Cheers, Steve.

It was Janspeed yes, although it won't fit in a Mini as it was made for the Metro. I own one of the only ones in existence.

Phil.

Jet motors also do a kit like that out of the states.....there was concerns about the uneven length of the exhaust manifold.

These look naff. Why go to the effort of side mounting and then waste it with rubbish runners. One of the points the wrong way!

I have made quite a few different setups now. As Phil saysthere are lots of advantages, improved off boost torque, improved VE etc... Lots of pipework to cram in though!
