Water Pump

Best Answer DeadSquare , 23 September 2018 - 03:09 PM

Blue Hylomar is considered the best by some, and if the thermo housing is not new, would be prudent to use.

if the pump is new, no real need, as the factory don't use it;  they don't have time.

Quick question.

I’m replacing the water pump. Do I need a special sealant for the pump gasket and thermo housing or do they go on dry?

Thanks

I always use a fine smear of sealant on both sides of the gasket, it's worth the extra 5 minutes to use some

If everything is nice, clean and flat, with the correct gasket, you wouldn't need sealant. Once it gets wet with the coolant, it should swell up and seal - as long as it's an un-coated paper based gasket.

None the less, I always use a sealant here, my own preference being an RTV based sealant.
