Hi,

The way the air ride kit works has seriously put me off it, pulling on the bottom balljoint on every bump is going to cause problems I think.

Having seen the mini world article linked to above, I gave Rayvern Hydraulics a ring this morning.

Their kit replaces the standard trumpet or hi-lo with a ram and you don't need to cut half your rear wheel arches out.

The kit lead time is 2 days, air ride I haven't heard from in 3 weeks.

You retain all Mini suspension other than the trumpets so it will still handle exactly the same as before.

Each corner has it's own solenoid so you won't get any strange cornering behaviour.

£1000 Inc vat gets you sorted other than the control side, compared to air ride where you still need a compressor and air tank.

Cheers  :proud:

I have just spoken to Ray at Rayvern, going to drive over to him next week to have a look at the kit. It does require a motor and a tank (just a lot smaller).

Hi,

Comes in the kit as far as I know. Please confirm when you've spoke to Ray.

I'm going to try and remember to call him tomorrow

Make sure you've got the most powerful battery that you can fit, same for air ride.

I've got a massive transit battery on my mini already!

Cheers  :proud:

Yep it comes with the kit. Can't remember what alternator I have now. May have to up grade. Funnily enough Ray said that all of a sudden of the past couple of days he has had calls about mini kits

Hi,

Lol, you even live near me!

Mines an MPI alternator so plenty of amps available!

What you got planned for controlling the system?

Cheers  :proud:

He said I could use a bias 2 way switch like an electric window. I could go down the route of having sensors in each corner but I just want it as simple as poss. One button for all 4 corners

Hi,

Yeah that's a quick and easy way to get up and running. I want to have some sort of a control system with pre-set heights.

Say cruise(really low), normal(lowered ride height) and high for extra ground clearance,

not forgetting dumped for when you park up.

Have you tubbed your rear? Oh err matron

Cheers  :proud:

no need for me to tub. Is for my desert rat project (see signature). To raise it up. Will have to think about getting round the length of the shocks when raising and lowering though

Was thinking of having a dial type switch with different height settings but need the sensors etc for that

Hi,

Plenty of spare power therr. Make sure you've got a really good cable on that.

Check out Rancho shocks, might have something suitable...

Hi,

Spoke with Ray again yesterday, he said he'd had 3 enquiries in one day compared to the usual 1 every couple of months!

He said with some practice you can use a couple of quick presses on the switches to get consistent ride heights.

Or he suggested time delay relays that you preset the delay so no matter how long you hold the switch it always gives the same output.

He also said you'd need separate front and rear switches as the rear, being lighter, will always go up first if you switch them altogether.

Are you going to Rayvern on Tuesday?

Cheers  :proud:

Been to Rayvern today. Ray is obviously a talented chap . Definately going ahead with it. He didn't want me to take pictures of the the pistons (through fear of some one copying them) but a pic of the compressor with intergrated tank and manifold was ok. Just need to decide where to put it.

Hi,

I was speaking to Ray about the siting of the components.

I said to him, send me the big bits and then I'll measure the hoses once I've got them in place. He said I'll send you the hose lengths of the standard kit see if you can use any.

Obviously the estate is a little longer and there's no point in mounting the valve block on the back of the seat as it folds down...

Cheers  :proud:
