The Stripey got picked for the mini sport stand yesterday at castle combe

Looked a little out of place as there were some very nice cars on the stand and through out the show.

But had some good comments and people appreciated it for what it was.

Someone stole my window sign LOL

Looked great, nice to see an original un-restored car.

I believe Paddy Hopkirk was presenting the prizes. he was at a function I was invited to, but said he had to leave early to be at Castle Combe to present some awards,

Wow that brings back some memories .... my first Mini was an 850 registration KJP 699P, late '75 although definitely not as posh. I wish I knew where it was now.

Not taxed since 1987, so most likely it’s been turned into razor blades by now.

I love the stripey LEs.

My dad always tells me of an interesting story when he was mechanic in local BL dealership here in N Ireland. The boss' son asked my dad to do some overtime one weekend and swap over running gear between two Minis. The Minis in question were both brand new and unregistered - one was a 1275GT and the other the first LE into Northern Ireland.

So in a nut shell they swapped over the front subframes and wiring looms into each car to create a one-off LE with 1275 engine, disc brakes and 12" wheels and fitted with a Smiths taco on steering column pod, and also to create a 10" wheel 1977 Clubman 1000 with a rev counter!

Both cars were registered exactly as they turned out, so somewhere out there hopefully is a very unique stripey LE with 1275 on the tax book from new with matching numbers.

Wonder if dealerships would get away with this today lol
