On all the diesels I've had I've blanked/pulled the vacuum pipe/deleted the EGR valves.

Some just need a blank and some you can just pull the pipe and put a bolt into it to stop it from pulling open as the vacuum increases.

As they've got newer I generally see them electronically controlled or they throw a light on the dash once you unplug etc them.

IMO I've felt the turbo spool up quicker however it could be in my head haha.

I removed the EGR valve on my current 1997 Land-Rover Discovery 300TDi and on a 2006 Mondeo Ghia TDCi which my wife had and in both cases it was a real improvement. However, on my current BMW 730D when I tried to remove it, the lights on the dash came on so I had to replace it. The only thing I have done on the 730D is to remove the swirl flaps on the induction system.

Make a blanking plate and sandwich it between the cylinder head and the egr. With it still connected so it shouldn't throw a code.

Ive done this to my last few cars that have had them fitted ever since I had an egr clog up on a mondeo and cause no end of problems.

I understand the point of them but personally I think they are more hassle than they are worth. I've even forgotten to temporarily remove one when sending a car for an mot and yet it still passed.

EGR's on petrol engines don't get massively dirty, it's Diesel engines that have the issues.

and why are you getting it remapped??  Is there much power to be had?  It's a 1.6 N/A, I wouldn't expect big gains unless the engine was intentionally de-tuned from the factory?

If the EGR is bleeding off exhaust gas from the manifold before it gets to the turbo then maybe you did?

Blanking that pathway would increase exhaust gas flow through the turbo.

pointless remapping any of the SSS cars (and not possible on the early ones) as you only get a couple of BHP all the people saying will give 20+ are talking crap.

My wife had a golf gtd which we had remapped, I wanted the egr deleted but the mapper said it wasn’t showing any files on the ecu (it was previously mapped before purchasing) although the egr was still working.
He unplugged the egr and added some kind of resistor in its place, this way the ecu still thought it had the egr and it didn’t spam the dash with Christmas lights.
I then cleaned out the inside of the egr so the valve inside stayed seated closed.
