I want to replace some of the brake pipes on my ‘98 MPI. Does anyone know if the threaded Union ends are metric if unf?

Most are UNF, only metric connectors ones i can remember are for the Brake Bias Valve on the bulkhead & the ones for the female connector (halfway down the pipe from the bias valve to the front brakes).

All pipe flares are SAE irrespective of whether they are UNF or Metric connectors (& make sure you get Metric SAE connectors not Metric DIN ones).

I always use Kunifer pipes (cupro nickel) rather than copper, slightly harder to form flares but more resistant to work hardening/cracking.

I need to replace the one from the master cylinder to the bias valve.
Also the one that runs along the front subframe

Hi,

I will done mine no long ago.

The one around the front subby is standard imperial.

I replaced that master to bias pipes with a braided hose kit.

You can then move the master cylinder out of the way when you need to work in that area.

Cheers  :proud:

To save time & effort (though not the cheapest option) you can get ready made copper pipes from Minispares http://www.minispare...n.aspx?2~17~143

Also as Bat mentioned the braided hose servo hoses make life so much easier if you need to do any work in that area http://www.minispare...26.aspx|Back to

For a yearly £5 subscription to TMF you get a 7.5% discount from Minispares.

Thanks guys for the advise. Must admit I’d never thought about the braided flexy option.
I’ll probably fit new copper pipes for now as I have some pipe & can use the tools at work to make them. But when I come to resto/ engine bay tidy up I think I’ll fit the flexy pipes.

I have steel  braided hoses. Ask one of the main Mini

Spares dealer. They will provide you with the correct fixings.
