Hi could someone please help going through the stages of setting the stepper the correct way...I've seen various things and am a bit weary of getting it wrong...the reason being is the lost motion linkage is not equal ither side but the car seems to be running fine apart from a slightly higher idle...cheers

There is a pinned topic wrote by Sprocket on the forum. It explains what you need to do

Even though it seems to be running OK does it matter that the lost motion sensor is not sat evenly....?
Could this be doing any harm to the engine...

Adjusting the throttle cable to achieve an equal gap on the lost motion link is simple to do so long as you follow the procedure correctly. Everything has to be working correctly in the first instance for this procedure to work, and if you have or you suspect someone else has altered the throttle stop screw "the screw that shouldn't be adjusted", then adjusting the lost motion gap is a pointless exercise.

If its just the lost motion link that needs adjusting, then follow the procedure in the Haynes manual. A small not on that procedure, it talks about only operating the throttle linkage from under the bonnet, and not the pedal. This was because the early SPi variant has a switch on the pedal, there is a spring from the pedal shaft up to the brake light switch mounting bracket to ensure the pedal returns fully to close the switch. When the ignition is turned on and the throttle linkage moved full range open, the stepper motor can be heard to motor to a pre determined position to allow the correct adjustment of the throttle cable to achieve an equal gap either side of the lost motion linkage.

If "the screw that shouldn't be adjusted" has been adjusted, you will for sure require some kind of diagnostic to be able to see the current stepper position with the engine running, fully warmed up and idling, before making any further changes. From my recent work with MemsRosco you can now see the base idle setting, and then adjust "the screw that shouldn't be adjusted" to bring the stepper position in line with it. I know the Crypton ACR on some ROM cards has idle tune as a menu item, it first monitors the engine and can determine if the engine operating condition is stable and in good health before it will allow you to proceed with the adjustment.

The lost motion gap allows the ECU to move the stepper motor within a specific range without the throttle cable restricting it. If it is so far out of adjustment, it is quite possible it will impact on the idle conditions.

Thanks for that.mite be better leaving it alone as it seems to be running fine.also I do not have any diagnostic tools.could this damage the engine tho....??
