Well you know how these things find you?, neighbour pops round to tell me the local stately home is selling off all its assets and there's a mini moke in the listing, hidden away behind the swimming pool for many years. I decided it was worth a look as today is the final day of viewing.

Turns out it's a kit car and my heart sinks, but after a poke around I discover a chassis plate "Grantura Plastics LTD, BLACKPOOL"

Grantura, plastic and Blackpool screamed TVR straight away to me and sure enough it is part of their history, the company continues to this day and in the old TVR factory still!!!

It's got what looks like a 60s wand change engine and box but the reg brings up nothing.

What's it worth?

Pictures to follow.....

Edit to say its a YAK, chassis number is YAK 70057

So I'd say its a 1970 Yak, number 57.

Gold seal 850 engine must be worth something in its own?

I've found a few old threads on here regarding them.

It will need a brake and clutch hydraulic over haul, set of wheels and tyres, probably suspension cones and a full rewire, other than that it's cosmetic really.

What about getting a v5c for it do you think, the auctioneers say there will be some documentation for it but that might come to nothing, obviously you'd get a proper receipt as it's an official auction house selling it.

Well its different i will say that. Not sure i like the back end of it, for me it needs to be dropped down a bit. But its certainly interesting.

It would need four suspension cones anyway, a set of cheap high lows would sort that out. Set low all round on wide tens would improve it no end.

That might be worth more than the Yak itself!

I might go and see if anyone bids on it, if its practically free I might grab it. I'm thinking no more than £200.

So after some digging around it appears about £1500 is top whack for one of these in full working order.

It went for........... £3600!!!!

Probably someone thinks it's a real moke and can't lose, as Hansons listed it as a Moke the buyer might decide its worth nothing and refuse on grounds of false advertising.

Yea that was always the worry with that car, a genuine Moke is worth a good deal of money and people might get silly at auction.

You weren't tempted to tell the winning bidder they'd made a big mistake?

Would be interesting to know whether the buyer knew what they were buying, price seems massively steep.

That said I like it, think it could be done to look the part. If I'd have found it I'd have been tempted too.

I didn't attend as the online opening bid was already near my maximum of a few hundred quid, I checked in later to see where it ended.

It will probably appear on ebay in a few weeks for ten grand.
