Hi all, i live in the Thurrock area of essex.
I recently bought my mini, as I've always wanted one. The thing is the more I look the more rust I find. I took it to a classic car specialist today for him to look at and said it would be about 2k worth of work body wise. It has the dreaded over sills so i want them off and a new set put on properly and just a general tidy up of the car.
I was quite gutted with his quote as ive not got that sort of money but just want my mini half presentable and solid,(patched up)so I can enjoy it for many years to come.

I just wondered if anyone nearby could take a look at my mini and give some advice.
Many thanks
Mark

Hi

its probably 10% parts 90% labour

you brought a mini so your partly a DIYer if not you will soon learn.

have a look through the bodywork section theres a great thread showing how to weld

which really isn't hard, its the prep.

if you have a bit of space even in the open if not a garage, cills could be off and on in two days saving a huge amount of labour monies, you will have to buy a mig unless you have a mate to loan one. app £200 panels £200

£400 plus your own labour, car sorted and a badge of proudness. DIM (did it myself)

Yes I'm now thinking of giving it a go my self. My friend has a stick welder he could loan me, is that any good?

You need a Mig, and some practice. One bit of advice I'll give you is welding metal is much easier than welding rust. Its all in the prep.
