Anyone fitted one of these new sliding window kits yet?

the full kit doesn't include the glass

do you know someone that can make safety glass to size then? my mouth is watering now :D

side window glass is on the mot now it has to be safety glass perspex or poly fails ...... mind you if you're exempt go for it :)

I'm glad my 'S' is exempt.

But to 1990 Cooper I have just bought back has perspex door windows, so they will need to go back to the original glass, No problem, I have all the bits i need.

I just looked on a couple of web sites which state that Poly-carbonate, Lexan or Acrylic windows are legal in the UK so long as they are not fixed (can't be opened) and are without an opining in them.

 

I'll ask my local MoT station who I know well before I replace the ones in the 1990 car.

You will also require Mk1/2 or Van/Pickup mini sliding glass (not included).

Available secondhand or new from Minispares.

Front door sliding type front window glass. MK1/2 plus all mini commercial type derivatives:-

Laminated safety glass could also be cut to size (not toughened) if preferred.

 

The Mk3 onwards doors are taller frames to roof gutter but I assume this conversion moves the early glass upwards to compensate?

..also worth bearing in mind that with this arrangement, in the wet you'll get a fair amount of water ingress into the door cavity, so you should make sure the doors are well protected internally and drains are clear if going down this route.  

 

..or just don't drive it in the wet

Is that true?

 

I'm looking at building something up to go through the IVA so have been studying the manual for that a fair bit. In there it's only the windscreen which needs to be safety glazing made from glass. All other windows can be safety glazing made from either glass or plastic so long as it has the relevant approval markings.

 

Seems strange that there would be one rule for registering a new vehicle but another for an MOT which contradicts the first.

Looking at that. What is designated as safety glass? Poly carb is much stronger

Mine just sailed through MOT with sliding polycarbonate side windows.
