Winter will soon be upon us,

I will be needing a new steering rack soon, and did a search but nothing came up.  What do people feel about the difference between the standard rack and the fast rack, the fast rack is about a 'tenner' more expensive but would seem the way to go ?

(as a side note - is there any way to 'restore' a steering rack, especially the 'splines' ?)

Moke spider has done a thread on Servicing a rack.

why do you think you want a quick rack?

yes less turns lock to lock but it makes the steering heavier and increases wheel feed back forces so in other words makes it harder to drive.

Unless you have slow reactions and are going to do a lot of special stage rally driving, stick with the standard rack.

In regards to the Splines on the Pinion, they are hard, I gotta say, I've never found one yet that's been stripped, the column is quite soft and it's those that normally goes.

If the Splining or any other part of the Pinion is the slightest bit suspect, replace it, don't even think about trying to do anything with it.

Quick Rack vs Standard Rack - as the other guys have suggested for a road car.

Mini Spares list new racks.
