Hi all,

My Mini occasionally emits a momentary chirping/squealing noise, similar to a slipping fanbelt, if I let the clutch out promptly from a standstill. It's intermittent, and doesn't happen if I pull away gently.

Is this bad news, doctor?

Thanks,

Ric

My Mini City E does the same.  Release bearing is new, clutch plate is a new (AP) one.  My theory is it's possibly the thrust sleeve (that the bearing pushes, which then acts upon the pressure plate fingers) moving on the pressure plate?

Doesn't seem to cause any issue.  My clutch is otherwise perfect.

got me thinking. early sleeves had an anti rattle part fitted inside that might be failed missing. note the later ones did not need it.

My rover cooper gives the occasional squeal, usually when it hasn`t been used for a while and within the first couple of minutes of driving.

I have managed to ignore it for the last few years without issues.
