Even if it's just the tailpipe, 3" is still too big for a 1000 'A' series IMHO.

Fit it if you like but it may cost you some ponies. A series engines are quite sensitive to back pressure. For example, the commercial Mini's had the tailpipe slash cut at 45 degrees. That simple change to the exhaust system gained 1 hp.

I think 1000's like 1.75" exhausts. The RC40 / millenium from minispares is hard to beat for small block mills. And it sounds LURVERLY.

i find minispare site hard to use, i am after a RC40 centre exit, 1.75" to 2" with the straight pipe to fit a standard manifold or original mini exhaust, anyone tell me the part numbers, its weird to follow.

Cheers

Am i right with choosing these?

RC40-059 - EXHAUST DOWNPIPE,STAINLESS STEEL FROM LCB TO REAR BOX
RC40-012 - EXHAUST,MILD STEEL CENTRE EXIT LARGE BORE
RC40FK - RC40 EXHAUST FITTING KIT

Anything else?

I understand that you only want a new backbox, thing is Mini is old technology. Mini 1000 more so when compared to later or injection cars , so it has a single piece exhaust system. You can change just the box if you want but it means cutting quite accurately the existing exhaust, making sure the new box aligns properly and will still pick up the hangers. If you buy a new system someones already done all the measuring for you. And the straight through link pipe is only like a tenner anyway (but I don't know how much the manifold adapter is). Also you get to bin your undoubtedly rusted mild steel exhaust pipe and even fit stainless if you want. And when you are of an age to be able to insure better tuning and a new manifold the exhaust you have will fit straight to it.

Oh, and Jordie,
The Minispares conversion pipe is LDP1 (repair or conversion neck for RC40 to original manifold). Only available in mild steel AFAIK. You may need to cut a little off the link pipe to fit it but I'm not entirely sure. Make sure you have the correct hangers depending on if your car uses bobbins or rubber bands, but it is pretty simple to convert from one to the other if you get stuck.

you don't need to take engine out to fit rc40 i picked mine up today and jules picked one up at drag wars, rich (jules other half) fitted it in that afternoon at the show.
one thing you will need with a lcb manifold is a new inlet manifold for carb, or if you get the stage 1 kit from minispares or somerford spares they have all teh extra clamps, new needle, and gaskets.

Right, if i order from minispares, how much postage would i expect?

its a centre exit bk box, straight thru pipe, the neck for manifold and RC40 fitting kit.

works out about £101 inc vat + postage, so need to know really or i wont be able to afford my wheels too.

your lookiing at about £150 - £200, for an rc40, but you get all the new filters inlet manifold to go with it, i was looking to buy seperatlly, but found it cheaper to buy the kit, as i only needed the exhaust as i'm putting twin carbs on it, it was still £100
