Hi Everyone

Looking for a full valuation of a Mk2 1310 Cooper S 11 stud engine.

Its currently in bits and stripped down as i wanted it to get all checked out a few years ago and it was easier at the time to not rebuild it so it didn't take up as much room.

It has its original, crank and rods which I've been told previously is the important bit, its currently stripped down so can be inspected/bored to whatever preference anyone has for it.

I have brought a replacement camshaft for it which i would like to go with the engine its a 286 Kent camshaft it was owned by one of the guys who used to be part of frome mini club.

A ballpark figure would be great to get an estimate of what its worth before I accept a silly low offer.

I paid £400 for the whole thing a long time ago and know that the crank and rods are worth more than that alone so was thinking of asking around the £1500/£2000 figure but it would be great to get some kind of confirmation this is a good value to ask for.

Thanks

One question affects the value whether it's a thin or thick flange block.  Does it come with a head flywheel, timing gear, etc?

pictures speek a thousand words.

Down side is, it's already @ +40 which devalues it, I know of a standard block and rods which sold recently for just over £1000.

It can easily be sleeved back to standard. Just make sure it is a real 'S' block by measuring bore and stroke and ensuring it has the cam chest covers on the back of the block.

Assuming it is an 'S' engine, if re-built with new pistons, new oil pump, re-ground crank at not more than 0.020" undersize, new timing chain and duplex gears, a good cam (not a 286 which is too 'cammy' for normal use), correct head and valves in top condition, etc., then it may well be worth around £3500. If it has an original 3-syncro gearbox with it together with the twin HS2 carbs and 3-into-1 manifold then add a lot more.

Un-rebuilt but with all correct parts it is probably worth around £1500.

Real 'S' engines are becoming very rare these days.
