Hi all,

My recently acquired mini is very sound - pretty much everywhere. Sills, floor, scuttle, doors etc, all OK. But there is a problem on the boot floor - localised to the rear right corner. I attach photos. I was just wondering - is it possible to repair this without dropping the rear subframe? I have seen some corner plates on Mini spares sites. Can such a plate be welded from the inside of the boot? I really wouldn't want to damage the paintwork on the outside, it's really good. I'm a newbie at this, so it would need to be done by a specialist, and I would like to avoid getting ripped off.

Thanks,

Ric

The thing is, underneath it is triple skinned. I think to do it properly you would need to drop the subframe.

I'm doing a similar repair to this but I have holes to both sides and in the middle so will be using a full width boot repair panel, I'm removing the subframe.

as mentioned there are 3 different pieces where the subframe mounts and it does look like there is more rust that needs looking at.

I had similar holes on mine. I supposed the choice is to hold back the ocean of hidden rust by patching it or, as I did, remove everything (subframe, valance, closing plates and subframe mounts) and remove all rust, weld in new metal and mounts ect. It's quiet involved and is much easier with the car on a spit.

The first choice would be a compromise but, if done well would last a good while I recon.

definitely do as you did  other than that looks a pretty car

If you have brought a mini you can undo nuts and bolts I would think

Got a bit of garage space? get involved, mig welding is not hard if you haven't got the equipment about £350 will get you a decent start up kit. welder mask etc

follow a couple of threads on here and u will be an Xpert in no time

that's gone onto the back panel behind the bumper so will wreck some paint no doubt
