So this is what my car looks like:

Ignore the bit about the white sticker not extending all the way to the front. I'm fixing that!

I'm about to change my brake pads and have the discs skimmed, so I was thinking why not paint the brake calipers while I'm at it. Would black look good? or perhaps a silver colour? Here's a close up of the front wheel.

What do you guys think?

Would make a change from the 'standard' red and it would make it discreet.
You could always paint them blue too, just to be different. ?

Black would be nice and subtle.

Out of curiosity, how much is the brake skimming costing? I can understand it cars with huge, expensive discs but at £30 a pair for 8.4” Mini ones I wouldn’t have thought it was worth it?

Same here, you can get a pair of OE quality brake discs from ebay for 26 pounds delivered.

I have skimmed a few brake discs in the past, usually just to keep a car from the scrap yard for another 12 months for a friend on a budget.

Most of the time they are OK and sometimes they have a wobble and on a ten quid mini disc I wouldn`t touch it.

You have to machine in behind the shiny stuff and that takes quite a bit of metal away.

Over here its about 5 quid per disc to have em skimmed, especially if its just a light run, like what im looking for.

New mini rotors are waay more expensive over here because of shipping and tax. Just the plain 8.4s are around 50 quid each.

Besides my rotors are still good. The only reason im having them skimmed is because im switching to mintex pads and its always best to skim rotors when changing to different pads.

Black will just vanish - I'd go with gold

That makes sense, but Mini discs are borderline for overheating as it is, being so small, so I wouldn't want to skim much off 'em.

Thats a good point. I think I saw a post by cooperman somewhere where he suggested breaking in new pads by driving at 30 or 40 with the left foot on the break. This has the effect of both breaking in the pads as well as skiming the disc. Might give that a try first since my discs are actually in good condition.

Gold is nice. A bit striking IMO. But it's a good alternative.
