You can't do that.... It was a 'special order' only colour & it wasn't available in 1974 -so it's not for the hoi polloi like you

 

Seriously though why not go with Aconite? They were being built in 1973 with a Sorrel or Olive interior, & to me it seems a much nicer colour than aubergine (Black Tulip) cars like mine.

I’m really not sure about aconite. Bit too purple for me. I’ve only ever seen MGs in the colour, never seen a mini in aconite in the flesh.

It was available in 73, std colour by the looks of the colour charts. The sorrel brown was standard from 74 onwards.

The 1974/75 colour cart doesn't show Black Tulip. I think they changed from Black Tulip to Aconite some time in '73

 

In the 1970's you could walk into a Morris or Austin showroom & drive away in a standard colour Mini (according to what they had in stock), but you had to place an order for a 850/1000 round nose in Black Tulip & then wait for delivery....

Unbelievably back then Black wasn't even a standard colour & was also a special order colour only!

 

I'm now revising my thoughts on Black Tulip as a colour, untill now i've only ever seen a Mini or MG with faded Black Tulip paint. Fresh paint makes all the difference

Having restudied the colour cards there’s a few mk3 colours which disappeared in 73.

Looks like I’ll be buying an earlier reg ?
