Anyone have any experience with the warmiehomy engine hoists on eBay at £120? I was going to go with a Clarkes one from machine mart at £200.

Interested in long term reliability, if I get one I want to be able to use it for years to come.

I know MM have vat free deals but haven't seen any recently, need the hoist asap.

I'll just suggest for you to make sure it has some kind of Standards Mark / Test on it.

The other thing I've found will all the cheap hydraulic gear (like the Ram on this and the Clarke unit) is it will leak in about 2 - 5 years and seldom are they repairable, so be prepared for that.

So even this £200 Clark one may not be much better? https://www.machinem...workshop-crane/

Try SGS ENGINEERING there on the Net.. There a british company also good workmanship and  warranty included.

I purchased mine around three years ago so far so good no leaks.

Yep another vote for SGS, they have loads of stuff on their site.  It's tough sometimes to only buy what you went there for.

Recent sale on swanky toolboxes caught my eye

I have the Long Range version of that Clark hoist. Got it second hand, clearly used and abused. Once I put fresh oil in it and bled it, it's been good as gold over the last few years.

I have the Clark one, it's given a lot of years of good service and if I was buying again I'd buy the same one. The handles half way up certainly get used so I'd be wary of the eBay one without them.

I presume neither of you have had the pleasure of dealing with the SGS warranty department?

Dragging my nuts over a cheese grater would have been a more pleasant experience.

+1 for SGS.

I got the 2 tonne crane with load leveller (£240) and it really is a chunky piece of kit for a Mini engine. You don't really know it's on the end of the jib.

It also made short work of a friends 3.0l BMW engine.

As Broomer says, the support is pretty useless, but I suppose they have to save some money somewhere and it certainly doesn't appear to be in the product.

Update, found one very very local ie en route home from work, on gumtree, £90. Only a cheap eBay style one. Got my engine out no probs. Have to wait and see how it behaves in the long term.

I've used the 1 tonne Clarke crane to lift a Defender 300Tdi engine with both gear boxes attached. Absolutely no problem and at a greater reach than you would need for a mini engine.
