Hi. First an apology. This is not in ref to my mini but my tdci mondeo but this forum had lots of knowledgeable folk so thought I'd ask. Mods I understand if you move it....

I'm replacing the water pump tomorrow. I received the new one tonight and the metal gasket that deals against the block has been slightly creased in the box by the pump rattling about.

One option is to reuse the old one if possible.

However is the gasket likely to flatten and seal when the bolts are torqued or would a smear of rtv both sides likely to help?

Here's a pic. Any thoughts would be great...

use Hylomar Blue it never hardens

I Have the clear silicone sealant. Is that no good? I used it on my mini water pump

the gasket will be ok its the rubber raised bit that does the main of the sealing as said use a bit of hylomar or similar
