Once again thanks sooooooooo much for the forum - I don't think I could keep a mini going without it and especially on a tight budget.

I put this in the general section though FYI I have a '93 Spi with AC so there are a few more pipes than on some minis.

My problem is this.  When the car runs the temp guage comes up to normal and stays there.  If I pull out the heater knob it still stays there (or may go up a little I need to do a longer drive) but as soon as I put the blower on the temp guage just fires up and I have to pull over for fear of overheating and of course cut the heating.

Winter is coming so I want to use the heater.

Can someone tell what they think is wrong (I'm guessing the heater matrix is pluged up the wrong way or something ).  Cheers.

Sounds more like an electrical fault to me - maybe an earthing issue.

The blower has not physical connection to the coolant circuit - it is just a fan that blows air through the matrix.

If you gauge stays steady when the engine is running and through all types of driving (traffic, high speed etc.) and with the heater knob in both positions then I would conclude the coolant circuit is OK.

Cheers Graeme,

yep the minis do have earthing issues for sure.  I put a good oil spray on all the heater knob and wire parts and the guage doesn't move to overheating, however the heater does not blow hot air and it blows air into the cabin on all 3 settings car, screen, off, so I think something is amiss and I will pull it apart.  Thanks for your help.

sounds like a wiring issue. or maybe a voltage stabiliser issue.

turning the fan on will lower that actual temp.
