Hi all

Changing clutch on an SPI im restoring as engine is out of the car.
Imsomebody mentioned its a good idea to have the flywheel balanced when changing the clutch ?? The flywheel is already balanced surely? Di you have to have it re balanced with the new clutch plate ?
Surely you can throw a new clutch plate in without rebalancing ? Its nit hoing to be a race car ? Thank you

Hi,

The verto assembly was factory balanced I believe.

I can't imagine if you drive into a clutch center and have a new clutch they'll do anything other than take it out of the box and bolt it on.

Cheers  :proud:

if you are ONLY changing the friction plate then all is good. BUT if you are changing other parts of the flywheel assy they will need balancing.

Hi,

So are you fitting a clutch kit or just the friction plate?

If just the plate then obviously then there's no balancing to be done.

If it's the full kit it would seem you should have it balanced.

I've only ever had a complete bottom end balanced, I presume there must be companies with an adaptor to allow them to balance the clutch/flywheel assy on it's own?

Cheers  :proud:

Just read this on minispares website

Clutch kits should be re-balanced to the flywheel assembly as originally done on production. This is because the verto pressure was a heavier item and the main mass rather than the flywheel as on earlier diaphragm models. This was recognised as a small design fault but easily overcome by balancing which is why Rover originally supplied complete balanced Verto assemblies as repacement parts.
