I have noticed that a few cars that are clearly not in a roadworthy state (and haven't been for many years) are having their registrations removed for sale, these are two example:

https://www.ebay.co....fffd57a3|iid:1

https://www.ebay.co....b3U6w:rk:3:pf:0

The last one originally had a picture of a very rusty MK2 Jag with the plate on which has since been changed.

I wondered how they are doing this as I understood that even MOT exempt cars need an MOT before the plate could be removed? If not then what stops anyone with an old logbook selling the plate?

Eligibility
The vehicle must:
be registered with DVLA in the UK
be able to move under its own power
be of a type that needs an MOT or heavy goods vehicle (HGV) test certificate
have been taxed or had a SORN in place continuously for the past 5 years
be taxed currently (or have a SORN in place - if it’s had a SORN for more than 5 years, it must be taxed)
be available for inspection
DVLA will check your application and contact you if your vehicle needs an inspection.

Hi, the mini might have been taxed in the past five years but I doubt that the Jag has and neither of them can move under their own power. I wonder how they are getting away with it?

Hi,

You'll get away with just about anything as it's unlikely the dvla has the manpower to check everything!  O_O

Cheers  :proud:

Borrowing a similar roadworthy model of old car and swapping the plates over for an MOT test and inspection used to be one way it was done......but I think the DVLA have got wise to that and maybe raised the standard of their inspections.
