I was thinking of repurposing the same types of push switches that are used in the door jambs, together with a standard interior light, to add a light in the boot. It shouldn't be that complicated, right? Has anyone done anything like this? Just wondering where to take the power from.

Thanks,

Ric

If it's a later car with an alarm push button on the boot, it would be easy enough to wire it to that for open/close on/off.

I fitted a LED strip that was battery powered and worked off a PIR so when you opened the boot the strip light came on

I just had to make a bracket at the time so I could mount a courtesy switch, and it come on automatically when the boot opened.

I also wired it in for the interior light to come on as well.  so If for any reason the switch got knocked or ended up staying on for any reason, you were aware of the boot light being on, saved any flat batteries. I also fitted a Yale door lock system as well for added security so I could put any thing of value in the boot and it was safe.

It also served purpose for an alarm system as well        Back in the good old 80,s !!!

I fitted one in the son's car. I fitted a Micro switch on the lock so that there was nothing in the way. I recall on someone's Mini. they fitted a door switch to the upper part of the opening and it was only something they'd scratch themselves on until it got ripped off, ie, it was nearly always in the way.

For a light, I used a diffused 12" florescent, but these days, I'd most likely use an LED light of one type.

I bought a cheap and nasty LED interior light replacement (actually a pack of a dozen or so) and a mercury switch (also cheap, nasty and from China) and hot glued the mercury switch to the trunk (boot) lid and powered it off the battery. It works great. I installed the same setup under the hood (bonnet).

I connected an LED strip to the alarm switch.
