Hi guys. So I'm nearing the end of the third rebuild of my Mini. Got it running nicely today an finished up on the wiring... or so I thought.

I'm having lots of issues with the lights, and it goes something like this. (I should also mention that I have a Wired-By-Wilson toggle switch kit fitted with LEDs on the end of the switches that light up when the switch is turned on)

The indicators work perfectly, including the green dash light

The hazards work fine all round, but the green dash light doesn't show, and neither does the light on the switch

The side lights work fine all round, but the light on the switch doesn't

The headlights don't work at all, including the switch light.

The high beams work only on the drivers side, and the blue dash light works fine.

I have no idea where the first place to start would be, so I figured I'd pitch it to you guys and see what you thought. Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Chris

Year and model?

90% of electrical faults are earth based.

Otherwise it's time to break out those wiring diagrams.

Sorry I should have mentioned. It's an 88 City E. The earths all seem to be fine which is why I figured I'd ask here.

Did it work before hand?

I.E Has a fault developed, or could it be a wiring error?

Yeah everything worked perfectly before the rebuild, it's only been off the road since August so not too long

With so many faults, I'm tempted to say the fuse box is playing up. It's very prone to corrosion.

Have you checked the earth behind the dash?

Not since I put it back a few weeks ago but I remember it being fine. Will check it again tomorrow when I pull the dash out again.

Hi,

First place I'd look at would be that clump of bullet connectors behind the grille.

There out there in all weathers and usually get very fuzzy.

Cheers  :proud:

I would run a temporary earth from your earth points first to a know good earth or even to the negative side of the battery this way you can rule that one out first .
I had a intermittent fault once that turned out to be the main earth wire I had all sorts of odd issues and like yours it had only stood for a few months but was working fine before it went into storage.
Good luck

Aaaah yes I see! I should have known that lol. I'm not sure the problem is with the switch kit, but I may contact him anyway for his knowledge if I'm unable to fix this.
