I've decided to sell my Jap 1275 Auto with (working) air-con as I've now got my eye on something else and need the garage space.

It was exported new to Japan and brought back into the UK by an importer of classic cars and bikes in January 2016, I bought it from him in October that year and am the first UK registered private owner. While it was over there whoever owned it backdated it to look like an early Mk3 with 10'' alloys, Cooper S discs up front and replaced the original Mayfair dash clocks with a classic centre instrument pod (marked in kph), as well as fitting a black Rokee wooden dashboard and a Japanese aftermarket dash top rail cover in black vinyl. Not long after I bought it I replaced the tatty Mayfair velour interior with brand new black vinyl covered seats, door cards and rear quarter panels, added a nice wood rimmed steering wheel and a set of new Cosmic 6''x10'' alloys fitted with Yokohama A008s all round. I also fitted a new Mk2 Cooper grille and surrounds and BL '70s period badges.

Being a Jap export Mini the shell is solid and completely rot free, this was my main reason for buying it in the first place as I wanted to use it as a blank canvas and turn it into a full on project with another engine and manual gearbox conversion etc, but I fancy something different (old and Italian) in its place and already have another older Mini anyway. I SORNed it when the MOT expired back in February this year as there's a problem with the reverse gear not engaging for some reason, I've been told by John at Guessworks gearbox specialist it could just be the cable needing adjustment, or the bands slipping inside the box. It is still drivable though with a good strong engine, there is an oil pressure gauge in the centre binnacle but it's not plumbed in. The only other problems are a sticking fuel gauge needle and the glass in the driver's door has dropped at an angle due to a chipped cog in the winding mechanism. Current mileage is about 97km which is approx. 60k miles. It's been garaged in the two years I've owned it and in view of the condition of the shell plus the new interior and alloys etc I'm asking £3995 ono. I know the gearbox needs sorting but there are so few good solid Minis out there for a similar amount, this would be a very worthwhile purchase with bags of potential for someone with the time and know how to get it done. At one point I was all set to hand the car over to Paul Preston Minis to do an engine and gearbox transplant and change the colour at the same time but this fell by the wayside with other cars now getting my attention.

The car is in Rugby, Warwickshire and can be driven along a private lane.

Thanks for looking,

There are a few photos of it in this thread, I've tried to add some more to this post but the files are too big, if anyone is interested and wants additional photos I can email them no problem...
