Hi there

I have a cylinder head from a 998cc Jet black and I am looking for somewhere to get it reconditioned including getting unleaded valve seats installed and having the head skimmed.

Does anyone know any Mini specialists that can provide this service, preferably in the Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire or Oxfordshire region as I live in Milton Keynes?

Thanks in advance.

I've not used this company myself, but a good friend has, and he recommends them:  http://www.fjpayne.com

A jet black will be unleaded anyway unless it’s a replacement engine

The previous owner stated that he installed a replacement engine since the original one apparently failed due to lack of compression.

However, he did not specify what kind of mini the replacement engine came from.

If you take out the exhaust valves and wire wool the head round the seat, you will see that there is a circular or part circular mark which is where the hard seat has been fitted to the head.

You may also be able to see where it has been fitted in the throat of the the exhaust tract as well.

I have never seen a head with hardened valve seats, that were so well blended into the head, that one of them wasn't visible somewhere.

Use AC Dodd or Turbo Phil (Phil is in Cumbria but postage won't be expensive)

To be honest if your going to go to that trouble may be worth getting hold of a better head to begin with 12g295 or 12g202
