I have what sounds like a rough wheel bearing. The noise starts at around 35mph, but disappears if I turn the steering slightly to the right, but comes back when I straighten-up. It's not the engine - the noise is the same when coasting in neutral. Sounds like it's from the near side (NS). I have changed the NS wheel bearing to no avail, and have now changed the NS inner CV joint, but the noise persists. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

Have you checked tyre isn't rubbing on something?  Is the brake disc and pads okay on that side ?  Have you checked all the other wheel bearings to check if there okay? Might have to just go through everything on that front corner and check for play and wear etc...

Thanks. Could it be the outer CV?

What wheel bearing did you use and how was the hub when you replaced the bearing. I ended up having to replace the hub and bearing to get rid of my noise.
Also some pattern bearings are trash

The new bearings were a tight fit. Notably, they were pre-assembled with the races fitted, so I had to fit them that way. Given that the noise is identical to before, I am thinking that it probably isn't the new bearings, but I could be wrong. If you think the sound is more bearing-like, than CV-like, perhaps I should replace the OS bearing before doing anything else? Thanks for your help.

Did you pack the new bearings with grease? otherwise it sounds like you've fitted them dry,  The bearing and outer race are separate, and you install the outers into the hub , then you pack the new bearings/inners with grease and jobs a goodun

Thanks. I packed the bearings properly, even though they were pre-assembled. I had expected the races to be separate, but they weren't, and I was not inclined to attempt to try and disassemble them. Do you think it could be the other side's bearing? Is that consistent with the noise disappearing when I steer a few degrees to the right?. Thanks again.
