Top Of Engine Block Stamped Letters

hello.

 

I just took an engine apart (12a2df) and it had these 4 letters on top. what are they?

something to do with which pistons they put in the engine?

also. as far as I can google, this engine was an spi injection engine hence why the temperature sensor hole is not drilled in the cylinder head, is there anything special I should know about this engine?

Had the Markings GEORGE on my head (wasn't painful honest)

was informed could have been person who worked on it being a 1380 conversion

That dones't look like a factory stamping in the deck.

 

Some Factory Blocks did have numbers in a diamond stamped in to the deck, but adjacent each cylinder. They were to indicate the particular size of the Bores to the guy further down the assembly line which 'Grade' (size) of piston to fit to that Bore. From memory, there was 3 sizes.

 

These stampings were done before the block was decked.

That's the factory sizing grade for the bores on the A+ block.

Means nothing now due to use and wear.

Was also applied on the South African 1275 A blocks too.
