Would appreciate some advice/tips on how to clean up small rusty bits...., bonnet catches, springs, bolts etc.., and once cleaned up how to prevent them going rusty again.

I thought about White vinegar but could only find Malt. Bits been in pot of Malt vinegar for a few hours and it does seem to be having some effect.

Many thanks.

White vinegar works well. Soak for a few days / week depending on how corroded, and scrub occasionally with a wire brush. Larger supermarkets and local DIY shops have white vinegar, alternatively eBay.

When you have got it clean, paint it with "Cold Galvanising Paint"

Either malt or white vinegar will work, used malt to get the rust out of my fuel tank very pleased with the result. Have used both Bilt Hamber Deox Gel and Deox C the gel is the more effective of the two products by a mile, the Deox C is just a very expensive alternative to vinegar and while it works it is no better than vinegar.

Painted some of my smaller parts until I discovered a local company who specialise in various types of plating and didn't charge the earth.

Ive used vinegar and Deox C on similar parts and always found the Deox to work better.

Most of them won't work on greasy parts though. Make sure they're nice and clean first. I left this head in for nearly a week

Acetic acid is supposed to br very good. The powdered stuff disolved in warm water seems to work well, it's safe as it's used in the food industry - I'll never eat sherbert again O_O

Another for Deox C powder here, amazing stuff.

Have also used the POR15 gear.

I've cleaned small items like wheel nuts, metal brackets in a polythene bag which has a small amount of Deox Gel added. Just enough to coat the item. The gel doesn't dry out and works well.

you just put the gel on the surface, let sit for 24 hrs then remove with?
I have a few spots on the seems and was thinking temporarily using deox gel or a por alternative by taping the good stuff off, then applying
