grahama posted a while back about a steering problem and tiger99 said it would be worth a shot at draining the rack, flushing it and refilling before going for a new one.

Having recently drained and refilled mine it's very gritty when winding back and forth so I guess I should drain it again and flush it out. My question is how to do the flushing? Fill it with petrol or something and give it a good shaking? Any advice would be very gratefully received. Thanks in advance chaps.

the problem with flushing it is that you just move stuff about and not necessarily in the direction you want.

strip and clean

Thanks for your reply, not quite what I wanted to hear but I know you're right! I've read the guide and it's very detailed and will have a go at the full strip, clean and rebuild. At worst a new one is not too expensive.
