Hi;

I have stripped down and early MG Metro engine to use of sell and inside the crank case on the Timing Chain End of the crank is what appears to be silastic?? Is this factory fitted or some kind of bodge to stop an oil leak?

It looks like the awful goo they used for the factory warranty stuff.

So should I be concerned at what I may find when I remove the Crank. I was contemplating on using or selling this engine?

Probably no more than you would any other crank.

It maybe.

The factory used similar looking goo and in similar careless quantities.
