As mentioned in the title, I have a problem with reinstalling the brake drum after having fitted new pads. When I adjust the pads, I can't get them adjusted enough to fit the brake drum. I was thinking this had to do with the brakes being bled recently with the old pads still on. Is there some smart trick to fix this without having to bleed the brakes again?

Thanks in advance

often it is just not having the pads centered correctly.

front or rear?

Tongue-in-cheek:-

Soak the shoes in Duckhams 20/50, the drum should slide over very nicely;   it also stops to them locking up.

Rear, I have discs in front if that matters. 1992 SPI. I tried fiddling with the pads a little but didn't get it to work, although it seems that it's the upper side where the problem is.

Yeah I usually do that when my brakes are squeaking, works like a charm!

then move them down. if the adjuster is fully adjusted out and wedges are on the flats not corners then you should not have any issues.

Stop it. Castrol R would make an interesting odour. Lol.

Are the brake shoes installed with the correct orientation?
Are the return springs fitted correctly?
Are the handbrake levers fitted correctly?
I had a similar problem with mine when fitting existing brake shoes after replacing brake cylinders. Swapping the brake shoes over to the other side and the drums went straight on.

Is the handbrake cable to tight (been over adjusted to compensate for worn shoes)?

Make sure brakes assembled correctly as per manual, if so, then disconnect the handbrake cables and make sure adjusters completely free and out to the stage you can turn them with your fingers.

Finally found the problem! Turned out that the adjuster didn't go all the way because of corrosion, so it seemed like it was fully adjusted when it wasn't. Thanks for your help everyone!
