I'm looking to swap out my stock 998 rocker for a more pleasing one. I really like the looks of the slanted and finned aluminium mg turbo one. I don't think I have aftermarket rockers so it should bolt right on right? What gasket is best for it? Cork or rubber?

I also like those Rocker Covers.

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't have any issues with the Rockers making contact with it.

I'd suggest a Cork Gasket and take a bit of time carefully bending it to shape as there's no gasket flange on these Covers to locate the gasket, or some people have glued the gaskets to the covers with contact cement, I haven't done this as I'm not too sure how oil proof the glue is. As there is no locating flange, a Rubber Gasket will tend to want to ooze out from under the cover.

Be sure to also replace the Grommets under the Nuts too.

Don't over tighten the cover onto the gasket.

I had an inexplicable oil leak for ages because of that

I stick the gasket to the cover with RTV so as oil proof as it gets. Just helps hold the gasket in place whilst you fit the cover.
I also grease the gasket before fitting the cover so it will come off easily and without damage to the gasket.

Same here.  I use the silicon gasket: https://www.minispar...|Back to search

Hi - I'm planning on doing this job (the front of my engine block is wet with oil and I'm pretty sure this is where it's coming from).  Not a task I've tried before - how hard is it?

When you say to use grease - do you just mean the white general purpose stuff?

Thanks!

Really simple.

RTV between gasket and rocker cover. Normal multi-purpose (LP2 or similar) grease between head and gasket.  Just a light smear.

I went through 3 Cork gaskets before I'd even put 50 miles on mine. Stuck a silicone one on, used RTV to seal it to the rocker cover, no leaks.
