Whats the going rate on a virtually complete 998 engine nowadays? If i remember correctly, i think the only bit that is actually missing are the pot joints. Took it out of my clubman estate which was on around 40k but i don't think that is the genuine miles as the engine tag is missing. I only took it out to fit a rebuilt 1293.

Keep it IMO. They only seem to sell for very little.

I would keep it and use it later as another project on its own or for another car, again would be inclined to keep it if its the cars original engine, still got my 998 in the shed its the one it came out the factory with.

Have no need for it to be honest, I'm pulling the rebuilt 1293 out and that's going in my other mini which I'm selling. Clubman estate is going K series. And any other projects in the future is unlikely to have a 998 in.
If I 100% knew the engine was the original then I probably would have just kept it in the shed but as there's no proof I'm not really sure it's worth it.

Cant you check the numbers to see if its original?

Ive been playing with the 998 motors for a while now. They dont go for much more than a couple hundred. A freshly rebuilt long block is only about 600.

I paid £100 for a decent engine and box - thought I'd grabbed one at a decent price until I spoke with a couple mini stock racers, people just give them complete units, they just run them until they pack-up and swap in another one.

So maybe £100 to £175?

Seen chancers asking £500 but they will never sell at that price.

I’d keep it if you can. When minis become worth more as standard like Mk1s are now a days, you’ll probably wish you still had it. I’ve got an 850 and a 998 under my bench in the garage - they’ll have their day sometime I reckon.
