Thanks for all the advice. I am going to look at some dates on some electrical bits later.

Dead Square. Sorry for the late reply, 0A  and I have different opinions about how much time should be spent in the garage.

The tyres that are on my car are 145/70 SP12. So 12" with full trims.

.... 12" with full trims.

Or to be more precise 12" with 1989 Mayfair trims.

Thanks again, couldn't put a picture in message but it looks like my wiper motor was made in 89?

Yup, looks all correct to me. Check the boot latch, screwed onto the boot lid. They had a similar week/year stamp on them too.
I'm sure the car is what it says on the V5c.

It's fairly immaterial as to which model it is unless you're trying to get the correct seats & steering wheel -which he is.

It's not a City E, they stopped making them Aug 1988.... though try telling that to the insurance companies that refused to insure my 1989 City.

Gave up trying to tell them it was a City model & had to agreed that it was a City E in order to get it insured!

1989 City and Mayfair brochure: https://www.roblight...r-brochure.html

I think the decals are still available. If Somerford don't have them try Stickyfingers.

PS

The wheelarch extensions, door handles, gutter trim, bumpers, grille, etc are not black for 1989 cars but rather Nimbus grey. Getting Nimbus parts is HARD but Rover Hurricane Grey paint will give a decent-ish match!

I bought mine new in May 1989 and had it ever since, albeit having it registered in my brothers name for him to use/register whilst I moved abroad.

In it's original form, mine was 89 Flame Red in colour, the interior was grey i.e. grey three spoke steering wheel (with 'MINI' logo on centre), grey seats, carpet, seat belts, door/rear cards, interior door handles/winder/door lever, lock surround, top/bottom dash rails, rear shelf and grey plastic two clock fascia. Headlining was white and dash shelf had black card against the bulkhead.

Exterior was as follows light blue stripe (decal), with three dots at the start and rear, running from the front on the drivers door to the rear. this was sited on the flat part of the door just below the glass and between the front and rear 'vertical' seams. On the rear panels above the rear wheels and below the blue stripe decal was the 'City' decal. There was also a 'City' decal on the boot. The side decals can be just seen in the brochure some1158 has posted. The City is the one on the right and decals are available from Minispares.

As some1158 has rightly said, the grill, bumpers, wheel arch extensions, wipers, mirror surround, gutter/bottom trim, door and boot handles were also all grey. Although I think that if the car was bought in black, all these items were also black.

Badge wise, my bonnet has a silver backed shield with black surround and vertical/horizontal and MINI across the top. Similar design to this:

https://www.minispar...px|Back to shop

and the boot just had a plastic, chrome painted, 'MINI' badge below the handle. It had 12x4.5 steel wheels and the hub cap/covering was fitted over the centre of the wheel covering the wheel nuts but leaving exposed the slots in the steel wheels (again, as seen in the brochure). The grill also had 'Mini' on it.

This is a 89/90 model and apart from the 'City' decals having been changed for 'Merry Hill Mini', it looks identical to how mine was in it's original state. https://www.classicc...-june-2009-7927

As mentioned by others, there is no sign of it being an 'e' except on the V5.

I hope this helps and good luck in your restoration.

Are you still going to return your City to original spec?
The Crayons fabric seats are extremely hard to find (i think they were only fitted for two years).
Just found 2 front seat but they are collection only from Brighton

If you decide to make the long trek to pick these up & are willing to make a stop-off in Berkshire i have the matching rear seat cover (& one front seat) you can have for free.
