I never watched the group B cars rallying but I frequently went to Brands Hatch and watched the Rallycross with the 6R4's, RS200's and quatros etc, they were great, so much better than todays rallycross in my opinion.

Back when paddocks were open areas and you could see what was going on in the services areas..

When there was a budget...

When people did it because they enjoyed meeting other like minded folks.

When drivers built and set up their own cars.

When other drivers had respect for others paint work..

When I were a lad........

Being old hurts.....(on the other hand the memory fades quicker)

to be honest the modern cars are faster and have been for some time. but the variety and sounds were very different. you could hear what car was approaching long before you saw it.

Still prefer the classic rally cars like these. Cant beat them for the variety and noise.

His car could produce up to 800bhp but kept it to 650 for reliability. De stroked to 2.3Ltrs for turbo charging. Seriously rapid in full attack mode.

Can't remember for certain if I was there that day but I watched that clip a few weeks ago, great race and Murrys commentary is infectious.

You could always get a real live fix at Stoneleigh at the end of February with the International Historic Motorsport Show.

I helped out at a local motor club in the last 90s and early 200s up north.

Rally stages across Otterburn ranges.

There were 6R4s, mk2 escorts, 3 door sierras.

Great events

I was a director of the company that did the design definition for the chassis and power-train installation engineering of the RS200 and was responsible for doing all the negotiation with Ford Motorsport on that contract.

In fact I was offered an RS200 at a very 'special' low price, but as I had a Porsche 911 then I said I didn't want one of those 'plastic' things. Oh what would it be worth now!!

My son has co-driven a Metro 6R4 on a UK National rally.

Those Gp.B cars were something else.

Definitely want to visit the UK to visit events like the Goodwood revival, and the a few of the big Mini shows. This event sounds just as cool!

That's so cool! Definitely would've been a good deal, plus it would have been a fun car to drive on the roads.

That's fair. I still get excited when we have our local annual historic race car event. Seeing the old muscle cars sliding around the corners and battling with the Minis, Alfas, and BMWs is a joy. I need to check if there are any historical rally events nearby that I could visit.

My parents live next door to Brian Betteridge, you may know him? he owns the one that appears at all the shows in homologation road spec, must be worth loads now!
