Used with a flip switch for reversing or flashing thanks to a pal who had let you in after overtaking.
Presumably it’s not legal if wired up

Although we all had 55 watt bulbs in them, certainly on our rally cars which is why they were originally fitted.
My 1964 'S' still has a 55 w bulb, but don't tell anyone!

Stopped once by traffic police (in an unmarked VW Vento VR6, so it wasn't yesterday!) who took exception to the light being emitted from my Lucas 576 as I reversed out of a parking space and traveled along the main road. "Sorry officer" and on my way with a ticking off

I had one wired in on my 86 city. It didn't have a switch though, just used it as a reverse light.

Did they do outputs other than 55W in the BPF bulbs?

I believe there was a 21 watt BPF bulb, but it was not considered any good for a rally car reversing light. The other idea was that if you 'went off' the rev light would give better warning to other rally cars coming along behind you.

I wasn't going to mention about the bulb 'upgrade'.Although we all had 55 watt bulbs in them, certainly on our rally cars which is why they were originally fitted.

It may be legal if it was a "work light". Not to be used for reversing on public roads of course. Had one on a Land Rover - very handy for reversing up my drive in the dark.
