Hi all I’m in the process of removing the engine in my MPI to fix some oil leaks & repaint the engine bay. The cars colour is volcanic orange & i’m thinking of painting the engine that colour.
Does anyone know where I can get some engine paint mixed to colour code?

Just use 2k paint. It'll work just fine!

Thanks Steve. How would I go about doing it? Paint it on or spray it & then clear coat it?

From what i've seen, usually body shops do it as they then bake the paint on!

You want to spray it on ideally with a painting gun, or you could use an aerosol but you will get a less superior finish with aerosol.

Ideally you'd want the engine out the car to paint as you will be able to prepare the engine better, also being able to move the engine around to get better coverage

Engine will be out of the car as I’m planning on stripping it down to fix oil leaks, valve stem seals etc.

You can use rattle cans without a problem. Just make sure you clean the engine very....very well!

 

You can get the original Mini engine colours in 1K rattle-cans and they give a really nice finish.

I found a seller on eBay that makes engine paint to colour. I’ve just ordered some item number 302654118934 though I’d give it a go

For the longest lasting finish warm the cleaned block before you etch prime, then topcoat.

What etch primer do you recommend, and would it be the same for an aluminium head?

Ahh - not sure about that - you may need a primer specifically for ali - on my cast iron parts I just use an off the shelf etch.
