Body Earth Connections?

electrical

Best Answer cal844 , 25 January 2019 - 10:42 AM

A 1993 car will have the earth's on the right hand inner wing triangle (as viewed from driving seat on RHD car)

Give them all a rub back to clean metal and then rub the paint on the shell back to shiny metal, then refit the earth's and try then.

Can anyone tell me please, where are the body earth connections on the main harness for a 93 (Mk5?) car? I'm getting some really wierd electrical issues and starting to wonder if the body earths are all good. I've looked around the engine bay and can't see any there, and all the documentation I've checked does give that information.

Is the Mk5 one with the plug & socket earthing arrangement on the left hand (passenger) inner wing triangle?

Has 6 male spade connectors in a plastic housing that bolts to a captive nut and then a corresponding plug with many earths going to it is part of the loom

Thanks for the responses and pointers guys. As for issues, there are enough to be doing my head in   Examples are, sidelights going out with headlights on, hazards but no indicators (checked relay contacts, might try replacing) HRW works one time, then not the next, brake test switch bulb on with low level, not on test, dip beams but no mains (wondering about column switch?) wipers v. slow and no self park, and so it goes on......

Clean the earth's, also clean the inline fuses. The front lights could be a switch or stalk issue.

The indicators could be the relays, there are two

Indicators sorted. Had a spare 5-pin relay. Used to test and hey presto, all working as they should. New relay will now be purchased, to keep my spare as a spare. Next task, will be to bottom out the headlight issues.

Clean all the favourite ones in the bundle behind the grill, follow the wires and see that they are not broken or chafed, I think there are a couple of small earths either side too.

Headlight earth's go into one wire and go to the driver side bulkhead triangulation.

The the two rear light cluster earths

Also check behind the Speedo binnacle for 4 inline fuses, my 1993 car and my dad's IJ loom both had them

Thanks for the inputs again guys. Eventually found that all the fuses bar sidelights had blown, one to the point that it had "welded" itself inside the fuse holder. One of the headlamps had a broken dip element and the other was completely white inside the envelope!. Changed bulbs and refitted correct fuses and all is now working as expected. Not sure if it was something I did, or were they like that from before or during the body repairs.
