My old and underpowered black & decker cordless has finally bitten the dust.

Can anyone recommend a good replacement please, or any discounts/sales you may have seen?

It gets used mainly for house-hold duties but also the odd job on the mini. Needs two batteries.

I have no idea what I'm looking at in terms of brands but I'd ideally keep the budget under £100. A friend recommended Makita, but that just stretches the budget slightly. Happy to do so if it's really worth it.

I would always go with a good brand, I’ve been running with Hitatchi 18v 1.4ah lithium drill/ driver for 6 years. I’ve abused it hard but it’s still going.
I will say that the batteries are not what they used to be and the chuck has never been great.
I have used an expensive Makita drill driver which has a great feel and lots of power but that comes at a price. The ERBAUER brand at Screwfix also seems a good product, used one at a friends for the money seems solid.

Very happy with Ryobi stuff.

I have the base model drill and it hasn't let me down.

Thanks guys

This one seems very cheap for the spec and reviews:

Really stupid question alert (electrics aren't my strong point).....

One of the big differences in price seems to be the batteries. 1.5ah versus 3.0ah for example on Makita stuff. Will that just affect the duration of use, or also the power of the drill?

B&Q have a Makita with two batteries for £90 but it is the 1.5ah version.

Is brushless worth the extra? Those two sets are £69 and £79 on ebay, so a little cheaper than Tool Station. May go with one of those.

I second this and also the battery fitting multiple tools is great, I have the drill and a garden strimmer!

Otherwise you end up with lots of tools with lots of batteries that you have to keep charging which start to fail from lack of use.

Higher AH is better for power, for same Volt drill (power = V X A)

I would recommend a decent AH battery, at least 4AH

While browsing the Worx and Ryobi interchangeable stuff, I noticed several tools I will want to splash out on (this is going to get expensive). Including a cordless pressure washer that looks like a drill body, and you just attach a hose! Brilliant! Especially as my pressure washer is also kapput. Don't worry - not for the mini, mainly paths and for blasting mud off the Landrover.

Thanks for all the pointers chaps, excellent wealth of knowledge on this forum as always.

I started with 2 1.5ah batteries on my ryobi stuff. They are fine, for example one battery lasts about 15 minutes of continued of a drill with a wire wheel.

I recently bought a "fake" 4.0ah battery on eBay. Works as it should (so far)
