I just got a valve job done on my Canadian Mini 1000's head. The machine shop removed these brass tubes from where the smog/air pump air rail connects to the head. These seem to be a Canadian-only part. They are number 12 on the image here: http://www.somerford...age=page&id=116

This is where the air pump rail attaches:

The tubes fit in the holes in the head, and the rail connects over them. There were only three of these tubes. Does anyone know how these work, and do I absolutely need to source the 4th one? I wonder if these are used to cross the coolant passage.

I just checked the head, and the brass tubes reside inside this tract, that connects the air pump to (I think) the valve chamber(?)

They had them on Austin Maestros too in Switzerland, can't help with the tubes tho.
Are you planning to refit them?

Yes, I'll be fitting the smog pump to clear emission tests.

Interesting to know how the plain end seals in the combustion chamber.

What is the outside diameter of the tubes ?

Outside diameter is 4.6mm. They're not too snug in the hole.

I got these brake lines that are 0.1mm bigger (outer diameter) than the tubes. I think this should work.
