Hi everyone,

In simple terms, is there an easy way to align the radiator cowl to the inner wing on a mk1?

I'm down to the last few jobs before paint on my mk1 project. I need to buy the cowl and weld it on, but aligning it is a concern, as it will obviously have to line up with the position of the radiator.

i was thinking of putting the gearbox into the car on the engine mounts, then bolting up the radiator to use as a guide. The issue is I have the later engine mount and radiator shroud, the reason being that I am putting a later 1275 A+ engine in, on a remote gearbox, so I am not too bothered about originality in this area.... at least not bothered enough to spend £100-ish on new mounts and radiator shroud...

So, If I use the later engine mount, radiator bracket and shroud to line it all up, will that put the radiator in the correct position to align the cowl to the wing? I want to get it right should I ever put the car back to its original state as I'll be keeping the original engine and 'box.

Cheers,

Chris
