It shouldn't be that tight that it undoing it would cause the block to topple.
Is the gearbox off? If so a piece of 4x2 timber between the crank big ends and the block wall.

My fave trick - mainly for the huge nut in the gearbox, but should work here too is a couple of 6' lengths of 4 x 2" placed top & bottom and a pair of rachet straps tightened right up - this would give you the stability needed to put some decent leverage on and lock the crank at the same time if positioned right......

If this piece of wood is about 36", you can hold it with one hand, with the cam spanner in the other to maximise your effort.
This nut shouldn't be all that tight, but if you have a break-away torque wrench with a square drive that can be inserted either side, insert it the "wrong" side, set it about 100 lbs and as it breaks away its effect is like an impact driver.
I always use this method, with 150lbs, on the flywheel bolt.

Rattle gun is the easiet way to get the camshaft nut undone, just make sure you have a really snug fitting socket.
You don't need to chock or have flywheel fitted as there is enough inertia in the crank assembly for this to work. Also works a treat for removing the damper and flywheel retaining bolts.

If you have got the right socket, there is a 230volt impact wrench on ebay for £49.99
