Just a quick one. Im rebuilding a 96 SPI and am fitting the top steady bar but i cant remember if theres a washer or spacer between the bush and the block? My logic would suggest there should be but my old one seemed to bolt straight against the block ? Is that right ?
Thanks Jon

There is occasionally a thick washer, iirc 5mm. It is beneficial to fit one just incase the bolt snaps in the block.

Thankyou. Think ill fit one !!

why all the spacers were deleted from 1971.

if you really want to fit one make it a long one that uses both holes and gives a good base for the rubber.

The rubber does just overhang a little one of the freeze plugs, by a small amount.

Yes, I make and fit a 5 mm plate here that goes under both bolts. Then if the Steady Bolt should break, there's a chance it won't be a complete trauma to remove it.

This bolt should only ever be a Grade 5 Tensile and so higher so that it has some flexibility. High Grades don't like bending and they crack & break.

I was concerned as the silicone bush sits against the block. If it wont perish then ill just leave it?
Cheers

adding a spacer will not change the conditions for the bush. it will still get just as hot.
