Has anyone come up with a method to illuminate the lower dash rail switches, when the headlights are on?

 

Also, has anyone found an off-the-shelf product that delays the internal light going off, after you close the door - like on a modern car

 

The last one has just reminded me.....an alarm that indicts you've left the lights on when turning off the ignition - I'm always doing that.

 

UPDATE: OK, so I've now seen this, which solves two of the questions http://www.minispare...ATION AND LIG..

 

But can anyone confirm how lights them up? or maybe share a photo of it installed and illuminating the switches.

 

The its just if anyone has a solution for the internal light delay?

mine were self illuminating but they took the lighting out on the later ones.

I did my old Morris traveller (which has similar switches on a little panel) using a small strip LED type light...

If it's Mk4 onwards (circa '76) it'll have Lucas Delta switches, They have bulbs inside that should light when you turn the sidelights on - I think the Minispares kit utilises these adding resistance to dim them so they made brighter when switched on. You can still get an illuminated side & headlight switch, BL superseded it with an unlit switch because they were prone to melting, you won't have that problem if you run your headlights via relays.

 

You can get  timer units in standard relay packaging, lots of cars had them, but probably done via an ecu on the latest models. That or find a suitable capacitor.

 

An Arduino could be a cheaper and more sophisticated way to do the lot.

Add a capacitor in parallel with the interior light with a current limiting resistor in series with it.

It'd make sense to go led for that approach.

 

plenty of cheapo Chinese timer modules on fleabay too.
