I am currently fitting a new floor and sills. As it stands its an empty shell on a rottiserie, at some point it will need to come off of this and I will need a safe and cost effective way I can work underneath it. Axle stands seem to be a non-starer as there is nowhere to put them, and I never really feel safe when using them. I would like to create something I can use for the build and for later maintenance.
My thoughts are
1) Sill stands, (rally stands) I would obviously need to fit suitable tubes etc. I have seem these fitted close to roll cage mounts in order to benefit from the rigidity they provide. However I am not planning on using a cage, has anyone fitted these without a cage and if so how did you brace/strengthen them ?
2) Create a cradle which utlises the slinger brackets and sill braces, and loads the sill in much the same as it would have been done during manufacture. Has anyone tried this?. My guess is that they would only be suitable for supporting an empty shell.
3) Jack it up and use a wheel ramp under each wheel. This does obviously need wheels to be fitted.
Any other ideas ?
