Damaged Hub Thread

After a bit of a suspension refresh it was time to bolt my calipers to the hubs..
Ive somehow managed to damage one of the threads on the hub itself and the bolt will no longer tighten. I ran a 3/8 unf tap down it but with no success.
What's the next realistic size that thread can be tapped to that will also allow the bigger bolt to also fit through the caliper.
TIA

You need a 3/8" UNF Heli-Coil kit. It's the only way to repair it properly.
You can buy a kit on-line from Namrick Ltd ( I believe theirs are called 'Re-Coil Kits).

Which one is it ? top or bottom.
As the brakes are a fairly important bit, I'd be OK with the bottom because of the way the disc rotates, but less so with the top one.
How much more does a new hub cost than the hassle?
On another point, Helicoils are quite often fitted in aluminium castings as they actually make a stronger fixture.

I aren't forking out £60 for a new hub, then the cost of a new bearing and ball joints for one stripped thread.
At worst I'll take it to an engineer's for repair

A Helicoil should be fine as the other guys have suggested.
Be aware, they come in 3 lengths and for that one, you want the longer type.
