Hey,
my new engine is on road and been running over a week. I keep having the problem, that if i put my foot down hard or quickly, it revs its balls off and goes no where.
I can place my foot down gently and build up to about 1/4 of pedals travel towards the floor and its ok, after that it revs to high heaven and dunt gain any speed?
Any ideas what this is, i believe it cud be a worn clutch or maybe the carb/needle needs setting up.
Cheers guys
Engine?

its a 988, we just put in. Paid £60 for it, its a good runner, but the clutch is either worn or needs adjusting.
It aint needed choke to start for a couple of days, old engine needed it every time u turned the beggar off.

If you have adjusted the throw out stop to the figures given in the manuals and it hasn't helped you probably need a new clutch.
If it is pre-verto then adjusting the clutch is quite easy as you have direct control over the length of the clutch plunger and how far you move the pressure plate.
However if it is verto then the set-up is a little different as it has a self-adjusting feature inside. The setting you make is just the initial setting and then the clutch adjusts itself as you use it. So you really need a new clutch to be able set this up by the book. That is the system as far as I understand it anyway, I may be wrong.
Are you setting the throw out stop? If it is a pre-verto then you have a return setting to adjust as well and setting this won't affect the actual clutch engagement as it's just for setting slave cylinder travel.
