Hi guys,

Bit of an issue, I have purchased a car with a remote gearbox. Having had many rod change cars, I’m finding the remote setup somewhat unusual. When purchasing the car it had a KAD quick shift fitted. I wasn’t overly keen on the short throw of the gear stick. So I began searching for a standard gear stick. In the end I managed to buy a remote housing with the gear stick complete, happy days. Now having gone to fit the gear stick to my current housing, I have found once the two retaining bolts are fitted it becomes very tight. I did find the quick shift retaining bolts were a little loose on removal. And I have found with the retaining bolts loosened off on the standard gear stick it does begin to move more comfortably but the bolts being loose obviously doesn’t seem right. Does anyone in the know have any idea what might be going on or where I may be going wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

you are most likely missing some bits or have parts from the ADO16 version.

if that don't help post pictures of your parts

I looked at that diagram on Minispares several times last night but everything appears to be present and correct. I can’t rule out there being a mix of ado16 and Mini parts, as the car is a bit of a pick n mix of parts. I’ll try and get up some pictures but so far I’ve been tackling it in car but I have a funny feeling the whole lot may end up having to come off for a closer inspection...

Those pics are from an 1100, not a Mini cooper type of remote.

one is one is not Mini forgetting the housing that may or may not be drilled to take both. but it is only a parts list and works for the bits we are talking about.

One thing to check is the Top Engine Stabaliser. Try removing one bolt from that, then bolt up the shifter and see how it feels.

If, for what ever reason, the engine is tilted over, it won't let the remote bolt up flush and that can make them stiff.

The factory also offered this advice for reassembly of the shifter itself. It may have previously been disassembled and re-assembled incorrectly;-

and what they are referring to is item 8 here;-

Chris, the words and the picture are confusing. going by the words the incorrect image seems to be right can you shed light to what should it be aligned.

Thanks for the input guys. I’m yet to take a closer look at the housing, to see what type I have. I take it the most noticeable difference between a mini and ADO16 Remote Gearbox setup is a spacer between the gearbox and housing on the ADO16 variant compared to the Mini version which is directly mounted? I can grab part no’s and pictures where possible. And I’ll check alignment when I can grab enough time in the garage.

Cheers

forget that part. i am talking about the parts you will have changed when you took out the travel reducer kit. if you have not refitted the right parts you will have problems.

Ok no problem, I shall take a picture of everything I have removed from both housings. Cheers

for the Mini you should have 23 or 12 sitting on the ball of the lever red line then the spring on that which is compressed by 27 with spacer 25 between.

The spacer on a quick shift is thicker than one on a standard shift lever.....

aint the Quickshift spacer the seat and spacer together? and spacer part is the same thickness to give the same spring resistance. or that is how i remember it. but it was a long time ago i binned it.
