A bigger bottle won't aid cooling, it'll just allow more expansion before you blow coolant out of the cap. You need either need a bigger, additional or more efficient radiator, or you need to get more air through your existing setup, maybe an additional fan.
i would not say that is 100% correct as there will be more water in the system it can hold more heat before getting too hot. but the cooling will just be the same as before.

Extra cooling with what? Iv got the biggest mpi alloy rad I can find
Custom rad or an oil cooler?

Only a touch though as the original one is a fair size already, unless they're going to fit a barrel in the back to do the job?

My expansion tank is slowly splitting and I am planning to replace replace it before it goes completely. I have seen references to fitting an R50 expansion tank as an alternative to the (overpriced and fallible) MPI PCF101241 expansion tank. Aftermarket R50 expansion tanks are readily available at a more realistic price for a plastic bottle, such as the Febi offering febi bilstein 44441 Coolant Expansion Tank with cover, pack of one : Amazon.co.uk: Automotive .
I am more concerned about reliability than worried the car remaining 'factory and the R50 tank looks like a good replacement candidate in the long term. From what I can gather the hose connections in the R50 unit are similar to the MPI but the mounting points are different. How difficult is it to fit the R50 tank?

Our Mokes came from the factory with a tank that's also fitted to the ADO16 and ADO18. I've not measured the capacity of them but I'd say it's hots about a litre, give or take. The original ones are Brass, though I have come across a plastic copy. These run at system pressure.
I usually only about 1/2 fill the expansion tank and been in temps from around zero to 50 C and found that more than adequate. I also usually fit these to my Minis too.

I fitted an expansion tank to my GT as it used to dump water from the overflow, not sure of its capacity but its easy to check the level now
